In 1982 Porsche made the decision to re-homologate their 911 SC Group 3 car into a Group B car, to do this meant that Porsche would need to produce 20 RS Evolution cars. The new Group B rules however meant that the larger engine capacity would have meant putting the car into a higher weight class, so to avoid this Porsche based the SCRS on the earlier 3.0 litre SC power unit instead of the more modern 3.2 litre Carrera engine.

Porsche had managed to form a partnership with Rothmans who financial back the team and funded the majority of the develoment work, there was also further financial support from both Shell and Michelin in terms of both development and research. The programme was entrusted to Dave Richards - owner of the Silverstone based Prodrive team. Of the 20 evolution units built five were assisted to Prodrive with the remaining units being offered for sale as Special Edition road cars.

The team entered under the name of Rothmans Porsche Rally Team and achieved commendable results in the formative years of Group B, however never achieving a victory over its fierce 4WD opponents of that time. Its best finishes being third places in the 1982 Mone Carlo and Tour de Corse Rallies in 1982 and 1985. The 911 was ultimately going to be replaced with the 959 4wd rally car, however the demise of Group B meant this car never raced.

The model is a testing kit and is showing its age compared to modern kits. Upon opening the box I found several breakages however after contacting the manufacturer Renaissance they were very helpful in replacing any broken parts.
